South Lane County Fire & Rescue has a position open on the Civil Service Commission.

The district is seeking an individual who has the desire to contribute to ongoing efforts aimed at enhancing and improving Fire Services in the South Lane County community. Interested applicants must be at least 18 years of age, be an elector, or a property owner within the district.

The Civil Service Commission’s primary responsibilities involve overseeing competitive examinations for Firefighters and Fire Officers on an as needed basis. The Civil Service Commission meets quarterly to comply with the provisions of the Oregon Revised Statues.

Interested persons may secure an application from the Business Office Located at 233 E. Harrison Ave. Cottage Grove, OR 97424, by calling the Office at 541-942-4493, or by visiting http://southlanefire.org/join-us/civil-service-commission

IMG 3181South Lane County Fire & Rescue personnel worked with the Lane County Sheriff and Cottage Grove Police Department in hosting a mock car accident as part of the "Every 15 Minutes Program".The Every 15 Minutes Program offers real-life experience without the real-life consequences.

This emotionally charged program is an event designed to dramatically instill in teenagers the realization of the potentially dangerous consequences of drinking alcohol and texting while driving.The powerful program challenged students to think about drinking, texting while driving, personal safety, and the responsibility of making mature decisions when lives are involved.

South Lane County Fire & Rescue was called to a structure fire in the 78000 block of Adams Rd. at 10:50 AM 04/28/2016. First arriving crews found heavy smoke and fire coming from the second floor of the home. Crews were able to extinguish the fire and contain it to the second floor. The first floor of the structure suffered water damage and moderate smoke damage.

The home was occupied by two adults and two children. No injuries were reported by the occupants or the fire crews. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
