Fire Safety & Education

South Lane County Fire & Rescue provides the following services related to fire prevention:

Public Education

SLCF&R offers a variety of educational activities to inform the public about fire prevention and life safety initiatives.

Inspections

Review of development projects for compliance with fire code.

Plan Review

The review of all plans for construction to insure that they meet the current fire and life safety codes

Smoke Detector & Carbon Monoxide Inspections

To insure the proper number, location, installation and operation at the time of all ownership transfers.

Complaint Investigation

Investigation of complaints regarding unsafe or hazardous conditions, illegal occupancies, and defective alarm systems.

Burn Information

Find up-to-date information on current burn regulations, restrictions, and permits for residents within South Lane County Fire & Rescue’s service area.

Fire Extinguishers

What type of fire extinguisher should I get for my home?

Generally, the best type of fire extinguisher for home use is a multipurpose extinguisher also called an "ABC" extinguisher.

 

An A-B-C extinguisher can put out the following fires:

Wood, paper, cloth and other basic material fires, oils (including paints with oil) and gasoline fires, electrical fires caused by small appliances, circuit breakers, wiring and other small electrical items.

Smoke Alarms

The Fire District's free smoke alarm program has been suspended until further notice.  SLCFR's firefighters will be happy to check and install any alarms purchased by the homeowner.
